Move over, Speedmaster Silver Snoopy, a new Snoopy watch is in town—and it’s WAY more affordable (for the rest of us). You’ve probably seen it popping up on the web recently, but Timex is selling a new Snoopy version of its 40mm Marlin automatic watch, this time with everybody’s favorite Peanuts character on the dial (in his flight helmet and goggles, no less). This growing collection of automatic watches is a welcome change of pace from the longstanding budget-friendly brand, but what makes this especially appealing is the fact that Timex isn’t charging a premium for this new Snoopy version of the watch; it’s still $249.00 and shipping is included.
As a watch collector, enthusiast, and a writer who’s been covering this industry for some time now, I love seeing moves like this in the more affordable end of the pricing spectrum. It seems so many brands these days are looking to squeeze every last dollar and cent out of buyers by charging premiums wherever they can (and only occasionally justifiably). The Marlin collection is already a home run for its vintage-inspired design—very ’50s/’60s aesthetics, a domed acrylic crystal, and compact case proportions.
