If you’ve ever found yourself wishing that the holiday season sales would begin sooner, you’re in luck. In 2020, that’s exactly what’s happening. The pandemic changed consumer behaviour, moving shopping online at an unprecedented scale and creating concern amongst retailers about shipping capacity constraints and merchandise availability. Addressing these, companies including Macy’s, American Eagle, and Nordstrom have announced they’ll be launching their Black Friday sale in an all-new format and earlier than ever before. Though, that’s not all. Pulling back the holiday shopping season to the month of October, United States is about to witness its first ever 10.10 Shopping Festival!
The three-day shopping festival is setting out to help customers return to stores safely and keep the shopping season fun. Driving sales with a gamified shopping experience and discounts of 25% and more on specific products, 10.10 will be launched in partnership with Shopkick and Fashwire.
Shopkick is a smartphone app committed to making shopping engaging and easy with rewards for both online and offline shopping activities. Engagements and actions earn customers in-app reward points or as the company calls it—kicks. Entering a partner store, scanning barcodes for select items, making a purchase and submitting the receipt, making a purchase online, using the linked card from Shopkick app to make the purchase, and watching videos can earn kicks quickly. These kicks can be redeemed for a wide selection of gift cards for continual savings. Typically, a shopper registering for the first time on Shopkick earns a reward card within one week, so with the additional incentive of discounts and deals during the holiday season, the saving can be accumulative and exponential. The intermediary position of the Shopkick app will be further used to communicate important information like details about in-store safety measures and product availability between the retailers and consumers. The coronavirus response by companies directly contributes to the consumer’s decision about visiting brick-and-mortars. Thereby, the spread of information is expected to help encourage consumers return to in-person retail therapy safely.
Fashwire is an online discovery-platform and marketplace for the contemporary fashion industry. Featuring over 250 established and up-and-coming designers from across the globe, Fashwire delivers a uniquely customized shopping experience by tracking customer behaviour and feedback from votes on designer collections. Celebrating the 10.10 Shopping Festival, the company will facilitate the participation of brands and feature their sales on the platform. If your holiday season shopping list is dominated by apparel, accessories, footwear, and jewellery, keep an eye out for Fashwire to enjoy savings from 10.10.
It is expected that over two dozen retailers will be offering deals and rewards for the 10.10 Shopping Festival. While Coresight Research confirmed on September 22, 2020, that this list of retailers will include Best Buy, Home Depot, and Shoe Carnival, little more is known about which other companies will be participating. It is confirmed that all rewards earned during 10.10 will be redeemable for any gift card available on Shopkick, including Amazon, Sephora, Walmart, Target, and eBay for further savings later in the holiday season. There is also an option to donate the rewards to participating charities of choice.
